EPA: Refiners will use fuel that doesn’t exist…

If there isn’t enough reason to reform the EPA…

EPA fines oil refiners for failing to use nonexistent biofuel

Question: Do you fill your car’s tank with gasoline that is part cellulosic ethanol, an environment-friendly distillate of wood chips, corn cobs, and switch grass? Let me answer for you: No, you don’t. You couldn’t if you wanted to. Petroleum products blended with cellulosic ethanol aren’t commercially available, because the technology for mass-producing cellulosic ethanol hasn’t been perfected. None of which has stopped the Environmental Protection Agency  from imposing hefty yearly fines on oil refiners. According to the The New York Times, in 2011 automotive fuel producers were assessed $6.8 million in penalties. That amount is expected to climb dramatically this year. Guess who ends up footing the bill for the difference?

This time it is Bush’s fault…

This has got to be the ultimate example of government bureaucracy gone mad. How did it happen? Blame can be divided over the last two administrations. In his 2006 State of the Union Address, George W. Bush promised to “fund additional research in cutting-edge methods of producing ethanol, not just from corn, but from wood chips and stalks or switch grass.” The following year, Bush signed into law the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA), which mandates that oil refiners begin blending cellulosic ethanol into their gasoline and diesel products.

You’ll use this imaginary fuel or you’ll pay a penalty..

The “advanced biofuel contribution” under the law was to begin in 2009 at 0.6 billion gallons of cellulosic biomass and rise incrementally, first to 1.35 billion gallons in 2011, then to 2 billion gallons in 2012, and so on. By 2022, 21 billion gallons of fuel pumped into the nation’s cars and trucks was to be cellulosic ethanol.

The law further stipulated that if refiners failed to comply with the EPA mandate, they would pay a penalty.

And while it started under bush, Obama is still wasting money on it…

The only problem with this arrangement was that the grant recipients responsible for coming up with Bush’s “cutting-edge methods of producing ethanol … from wood chips and stalks or switch grass” instead came up empty. In a 2011 report, the National Academy of Sciences concluded that “currently, no commercially viable bio-refineries exist for converting cellulosic biomass to fuel.” The report also noted that the renewable fuel standard “may be an ineffective policy for reducing global greenhouse gas emissions,” since the full life cycle of the fuel, including its transport, could lead to higher emissions than conventional petroleum.

Undaunted, the Obama administration has forged blindly ahead, continuing the elusive search for a technology that will produce cellulosic biomass—at taxpayers’ expense. Since thanks to the EPA mandate we are already paying more at the pump, the American people are truly getting nothing for something.

Perhaps I’ll write a post on what ethanol does to your engines… hint – it ain’t good.

Obama, Global Warming, Electric Cars and Reality

Senators vow to strip Obama climate power

Conservative senators vowed Monday to strip President Barack Obama of his power to regulate greenhouse gases, in a move that would cripple US efforts on climate change if successful.

Only liberals would think man has the power to change the climate.

Eleven Republican senators introduced a bill that would stop the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gases, which scientists blame for global warming, without explicit approval by Congress.

Global warming? Has anyone looked at a weather map lately?

Under Obama, the federal agency has steadily increased standards on gas emissions. The Republicans accused Obama of circumventing Congress, where a so-called “cap-and-trade” bill to mandate emission curbs died last year.

Well Obama said that if congress wouldn’t do what he wanted he would do it through regulations, no surprise there.

“My bill will shrink Washington’s job-crushing agenda and grow America’s economy,” said Senator John Barrasso, a Republican from Wyoming and skeptic of climate change who is leading the effort.

“I will do whatever it takes to ensure that Washington doesn’t impose cap-and-trade policies in any form.”

Yeah he and most Americans are skeptical of climate change/global warming as we prepare for yet another major winter storm – but I guess the cold ass snowy winter are a result of the planet heating up right? And as for cap and trade … is there not Democrats running against Obama by shooting the crap and tax bill with a rifle? Yeah I believe there is.

The Obama administration counters that a shift to green energy would help both the planet and the economy by creating a new source of high-paying jobs.

If green energy was viable we wouldn’t have to bride people to use it… but on that note let’s take a look at green energy. From the Obama Washington Post…

Cold truths about electric cars’ cold-weather shortcomings

Being car-bound in sub-freezing weather for six hours can make a guy think. I counted my blessings. The situation could have been worse, I realized: My fellow commuters and I could have been trying to make it home in electric cars, like the ones President Obama is constantly promoting, most recently in his State of the Union address.

Now this is the Washington Post, not the Washington Times… rather shocking.

It is a basic fact of physical science that batteries run down more quickly in cold weather than they do in warm weather, and the batteries employed by vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf or the Chevy Volt are no exception.

The exact loss of power these cars would suffer is a matter of debate, partly because no one has much real-world experience to draw on. But there would be some loss. Running the heater to stay warm, or the car radio to stay informed, would drain the battery further.

Here’s how thecarelectric.com, a pro-electric Web site, candidly summarized the matter:

“All batteries deliver their power via a chemical reaction inside the battery that releases electrons. When the temperature drops the chemical reactions happen more slowly and the battery cannot produce the same current that it can at room temperature. A change of ten degrees can sap 50% of a battery’s output. In some situations the chemical reactions will happen so slowly and give so little power that the battery will appear to be dead when in fact if it is warmed up it will go right back to normal output. . . .

Any idiots should know cold weather drains batteries and warm weather will help batteries… so in order for the Obama green agenda to be successful we need Global Warming or we’ll all freeze to death in a snow bank with a dead battery.

There all absolute idiots.

Go ahead and read the rest of the  Cold Truth article and see all the flaws of electric cars – and I haven’t even touched on the subject that Electric cars were first invented in the 1830′s (yes the 1830′s) and they failed, they tried again in the late 1800′s and  early 1900′s they failed, they tried again in the 1960′s and 1970′s and they failed and now there are trying again… are you seeing a pattern? For the record doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is a sign of insanity.

The Shambled State of the Union…

I tried to listen to Dopey and the State of the Union but it was the same old bullshit we’ve all heard before – the same crap and platitudes he espoused last year that never came to fruition. Obama fancies himself the spearhead of a great political moment and he buy his won rhetoric. No one who as paid any attention to him knows the man doesn’t get it. So I’m not going to go over his speech line by line – suffice to say Obama is clueless… utterly, completely clueless. He’s a ball in high weeds. He still thinks government can do everything, he still thinks it take tax payer money to get anything done and he just doesn’t get it. His speech was all over the place and it wonder around aimlessly as he talked about the need for government to INVEST but yet list companies he used as an example of success built themselves with private money – not government money. Nothing the that can stand on it’s own needs government help – if you need to subsidizes it – it’s because no one wants it.

Obama thinks we need to invest in this and that and the reality is IF.. IF something is viable and there is money to be made then the private sector will do it. It seems government only gets into businesses that are going to loose money… Amtrak anyone? We spend (read loose) billion every year on Amtrack and somehow Hi-Speed rail that will require all new tracks is going to make money?  He said something (I wasn’t really listening) about wanting 85% of our energy to come from wind and solar – please do you know how much energy we get from wind and solar right now? I’ll tell you… 0.6% of wind and 0.1 from solar – that’s less than 1% total and he wants it at 80-85%? Where are those solar panels going to come from? America? NO??

GE And Evergreen Close Solar Plants

Renewable Energy: Price crunch affects U.S. solar panel makers

So even Obama’s GE has thrown in the towel on solar panels and guess what… remember T.Boone Pickens babbling about wind energy? He threw in the towel too after wasting billions.

So I listened to the speech and I really should have recorded it for those days when I can’t get to sleep – it was nothing more than more of Obama’s lofty BS and lies, but sadly a lot of people well buy he crap and that’s what’s really pathetic.

2011 Chevy Volt aka the Chevy Joke

I know everyone is bitching about the Arizona Law – I’m to not worried about the Supreme court will overturn the court 5-4 so while this is a serious matter everyone else is covering it. So I’m going to talk about the glorious new Chevy Volt.

Did you see this piece of crap? The car that Dopey was pushing and talking about like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. The NEW all electric Chevy Volt – yeehah and it retails for only $41,000.00 or a little over  a $1000.00 a miles drive distances.

Chevy Volt: Are Electric Cars Too Expensive?

When General Motors Corp. said its new Chevrolet Volt electric car would cost $41,000 and up, many consumers and industry insiders winced. Some of them consider anything over $40,000 serious money for a car, and they may not think the Volt is worth the premium over other economy models.

But here is the deal and I’ll admit I thieved part of this idea from a comment on Hot Air – a good comment they just had some MPG data slightly off.

This Chevy Volt is $41,000.00 in addition to gas guzzling truck of which I’m going to get another one (perhaps a big 7.3 Diesel with a lift bucket on it – I’m not kidding) and we have a little Honda Civic Hybrid for road trips that’s gets on average 40+ MPG (yes Looney Liberals even conservative can drive Hybrids – we just don’t get smug about it.) So the Hybrid was bought when gas was cheap between Katrina and the spike for (I think) for around $16,000.00 – OK those are the numbers.

Got it… $16K car verses $41K car

Chevy Volt $41,000.00
Honda Civic Hybrid – $16,000.00

The difference – $25,000.00 and as of today gas was $2.53/gal here – so now let’s divide $25K by $2.53 that come to 9881.42 gallons of gas – so calculate that the Honda Civic Hybrid that gets 40+ MPG so on nearly 10,000 gallons of gas you could drive 395,256.91 miles (or all the way to the moon and 2/3 of the way back). Now take those 395,256.91 miles and divide that by the 20,000 a year we put on the car and it would only take 19.76 year to break even if you bought a Volt – well were the hell do I sign up to buy one.

BUT… BUT I didn’t even factor in the amount of money you have to spend to charge the car and exactly where would you charge the car while at work and just who is going to let you plug your car in to charge every day with out paying them and the very fact that electricity come from where? Fossil fuel, that’s where and did I mention that this snazzy new $41,000.00  Chevy Volt has a range of up to 40 miles?  40 MILES!! And if you read the fine print of the Volt it says …

2011 VOLT

Volt is an electric car that uses gas to create its own electricity. Plug it in, let it charge overnight, and it’s ready to run on a pure electric charge for up to 40 miles(3) — gas and emissions free. After that, Volt keeps going, even if you can’t plug it in. Volt uses a range-extending gas generator that produces enough energy to power it for hundreds of miles on a single tank of gas.

Whoa it still uses gas in addition to it’s fossil fuels powered electricity? What the hell – how GREEN is that? And exactly what’s that little disclaimer (3) after the “40 miles” … hmmm?

3
Assumes fully charged battery. Actual range depends on driving habits, weather conditions, terrain and the operation of electrical features in the vehicle. Vehicle features and performance capabilities subject to change without notice.

So what they are saying is provide you have a perfectly flat and straight road on a sunny day and you have a full charge you can get 40 miles out of it, otherwise forget it.

So after looking at the specs, the numbers, the facts and the cost I’d say the Chevy Volt would be better called the Chevy Joke. Get’s yours today.

The folks that bbuy the Volt are the same smug selfish elitist that buy the IPad

$900,000.00 of stupid.

ugly-houseWhat could you do with $900,000.00? Pay off all your debt with a little left over? Maybe start a business or just retire? Well if you’re in Troy, MI you build a “green” house… you know not the plant kind but the liberal hug-a-tree kind. Yes $900,000.00 spent on a 800 square foot ugly ass all green style house, solar power totally off the grid house. 800 sq ft … that’s $1125.00 a square foot and for a point of reference the average building cost for a house is between $100-$150 sq ft, so it cost 10 times the average cost of building a custom home, I’ll take two please.

Troy’s celebrated solar house left in dark

Seven months ago, officials gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the $900,000 house owned by the city of Troy that was to be used as an educational tool and meeting spot.

But it never opened to the public. And it remains closed.

Hmmm, I wonder why? Do tell.

Frozen pipes during the winter caused $16,000 in damage to floors, and city officials aren’t sure when the house at the Troy Community Center will open.

$16,000 on a floor damage in a 800 square foot house? Help me out here, I work on house for a living so I’m guessing they installed exotic hardwood floors at about $20 sq ft. Because there is no way every sq ft was damaged, but I’m also guessing they used manufactured I-beam joist which used pressed wood and swells when wet… frankly for $900,000.00 they should have used steel or maybe even golden I-beams.

So what caused the flood?

The city says it was a mechanical problem. University officials heard it differently.

Jeff Biegler, superintendent of parks for the city, said the flooding occurred from a glitch in the heater.

“The system was designed to kick a heater on to keep water from freezing,” Biegler said. “The heater drew all reserve power out of the battery causing the system to back down and the pipes froze.”

So what caused the flooding? No freaking power to keep the house warm that’s what caused the pipes to freeze and the resulting flooding when they thawed there Sherlock. Let me offer the geniuses that built this piece of crap house a little tip… it’s like this when it’s really, really cold outside and the water is not running and the heat is not on, the pipes freeze. This is why we use this thing call ELECTRICITY and/or GAS (heating oil up north) to heat our homes in the winter time and if the power goes out you leave the faucets just barely running or turn the water supply off and drain the lines to prevent freezing. That way you don’t end up with $16,000.00 in floor damage in your 800 square foot ugly ass trailer.

Oh well another one of many failed liberal pie in the sky ideas. Solar panels in the winter time… how many damn sunny days do you see in the winter time Einstein? And if you do have a sunny day, the days a shorter in winter and as a result the nights are longer and you don’t have enough battery charge time to cover the power needs of the dark hours, common sense people, common sense try it sometime.

Oh and one final note, next time hire a architect and a contractor normally this drives the cost up, but in your case I bet you’d not only get a house that doesn’t look like a single wide trailer fashioned by Larry the Cable Guy, but you could build it for a one tenth the cost too. Might want to look into a carbon emitting fireplace while you’re at it, because if this is the kind of crap houses you’re going to build we’re going to need global warming to keep the water running and no freeze to death.

Not only are these people from the shallow end of the gene pool, they’re out there breeding. God help us.

May I have $5.00 gallon gas please?

Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colo.) Obama’s secretary of the interior nominee said he will consider restoring parts of an expired federal ban on offshore oil drilling, but has “no idea” how much of a restriction there should be. Restoring the ban … pure genius (sarcasm), what better way to achieve energy independence than to ban drilling. Try this why not stop eating everything and then figure out later while you’re starving to death how to supply your body with the nutrients it needs. That would be smart huh? Well that’s what the Democrats want to do with oil and coal. The USA has enough untapped oil, shale oil and coal to be energy independent for 100′s of years, sorry lib’s that a fact look it up. What you can do while we are using these vast reserve of energy is we can at a leisurely and economical pace develop new energies and odds are that the technology will evolve to make these lofted goals more easily achievable and affordable. Perhaps something so new will be developed that we don’t even know about yet, perhaps something that will solve all the energy problems for the entire planet and we can all hold hands and sing kumbaya.

Throwing $100′s of millions of dollars at a problem, which seems to becoming the status quo in Washington is not the answer. All this will do is get us deeper and deeper in debt and nothing to show for it, but a bunch of lofty unrealized goals.

So instead of me going on a big long boring rant about the many reasons there are that this is just a bad idea … I’ll present one idea of my own … ready? OK here goes … If you are a environmentalist wacko that frets over the size of your carbon foot print, just ask the gas station to charge you $5.00 or more for a gallon of gas and the difference between the market price and the price you pay goes to new energy research and you can feel good about yourself and you’re doing your part to save the world. So remember just say “May I have $5.00 a gallon gas please?” If you’re not willing to put your money where your mouth is, then shut up. You’re a hypocrite and a preach it, but don’t do it loon. I want to see some of these big talk the talk liberals walk the walk.

Tell you Republican representatives to block Salazar or we’ll all be paying $5.00 a gallon for gas before you know it.
