Jones Act Slowing Oil Spill Cleanup?
Foreign companies possessing some of the world’s most advanced oil skimming ships say they are being kept out of efforts to clean up the oil spill in the Gulf because of a 1920’s law known as the Jones Act — a protectionist law that requires vessels working in US waters be built in the US and be crewed by US workers.
Surly there is a way the wave the Jones Act – why yes they is and Bush did it days after Katrina…
Waivers to the Jones Act were granted by the administration of George W. Bush in the days following hurricane Katrina. And today, the Obama White House said waivers might again be considered.
“If there is the need for any type of waiver, that would obviously be granted,” said White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs. “But, we’ve not had that problem thus far.”
I’m sorry do what? No problems so far Robert? You’ve got to be kidding me – no problem? The biggest oil spill in the nations history and it’s still leaking and you say there is no problem? What kind of moron are you Gibbs – my gawd these people are idiots. Right now there is still 20,000-40,000 barrels of oil a day leaking into the Gulf, but don’t worry it’s not a problem.
So why not waive the Jone’s Act and get some of these oil skimmers from around the world to the Gulf to help skim the oil out of the Gulf? In a word – UNIONS! Obama is so deep in the pocket of big labor that the if Obama waved the Jones Act it would be his ass that would get kicked.
When asked about this by Fox News, Admiral Allen said, “If it gets to the point where a Jones Act waiver is required, we’re willing to do that too Nobody has come to me with a request for a Jones Act waiver.” After 50 plus days of oil flowing freely into the gulf, the question could be asked: Why do effective and proven foreign clean up ships remain on the sidelines? Carafano believes it may have something to do with the Obama administration’s close relationship with labor unions.
“Cause this is a big thing for unions,” Carafano said. “The unions see it as … protecting jobs. They hate when the Jones Act gets waived, and they pound on politicians when they do that. So … are we giving in to unions and not doing everything we can, or is there some kind of impediment that we don’t know about?
So while all you southern hicks (said with great affection) on the coast pick up tar balls and eat shrimp deep fried in raw crude Obama continues to protect his Union buddies, go to parties and play golf as your generations old fishing businesses set idle at the docks, beach remain empty, restaurants and hotels starve for business – I have to ask how is that hope and change working for you?
Obama’s handling of this real crisis would be laughable if the effects on million along the gulf coast weren’t so real. Obama has been a master of ginning up fake crisis’s to push his agenda and now that a real one hits it is easy to see just how ill-qualified he is to handle the job. To date he still has not spoken to the BP CEO or the Board of Directors to ask the simple question – what can we do to help you get this under control? Nope! Only today did the White house send a letter to BP to meet and chat with the Idiot and Thief on June 16th – so one must ask what’s taking so long? What Obama wants is to stifle all drilling in the Gulf of Mexico which brings nearly $2.5 billion in wages per year to the entire Gulf coast and push his Cap and Trade agenda to push your energy coast higher and somehow this is leadership? It’s an absolute disgrace and he is wrapping his presidency in the paper of ultimate failure with a big bow on top.
