California lawmaker wants to legalize pot

From the APObama …pot-taxstamp

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – One California lawmaker is high on pot — as a way to ease the state’s cash crunch. Assemblyman Tom Ammiano wants to legalize the illegal weed and tax it. The San Francisco Democrat introduced a bill yesterday to give marijuana the same legal status as alcohol. Sales would be restricted to those over 21 and driving under the influence would be against the law. Ammiano’s proposal calls for taxing pot at 50 bucks an ounce. He says legal pot would bring in an estimated $1 billion in tax money for California.

… and estimated $1,000,000,000.00 ? What about the billions in federal funds you’ll loose? If a state legalizes, say just marijuana alone, they will loose federal drug enforcement money for all drugs, federal drug treatment money and more. Now for the record I don’t care if you smoke pot, I don’t. I think marijuana is fairly harmless by itself with no greater risk than say tobacco or alcohol. But for California to think they can unilaterally legalize pot with no loss of Federal money? Well they’re just high.

Hey, Governator … here’s an idea drill for oil and natural gas! Get rid of all the illegals, get people off the government tit. What’s a billion dollars pot taxes going to do, provided people buy it legally if legalized to offset a $43 Billion dollar debt? Talk about pissing in the ocean.
