Obama Seeks Partial Three-Year Spending Freeze

The drop-in-the-bucket nature of the president’s proposal was underscored Tuesday by a Congressional Budget Office estimate projecting the 2010 federal deficit to hit $1.35 trillion — Obama’s spending freeze would be expected to save up to $15 billion the first year.

They are joking right? This is some attempt at comedy correct? I’m supposed to believe that all of the sudden Obama woke up one morning and decided he is a budget hawk, please. We have a $1,350,000,000,000.00 ($1.35T) deficit on this Obama budget and they think a spending freeze that somehow saves $15,000,000,000.00 (($15B) is going to matter? Now I’m all for spending less, but don’t piss down my neck and tell me it’s raining. This is a flimflam if I ever saw one. Obama is going to get out there at the SOTU and tout that this freeze will save $250 billion over ten years. How they get $250B over 10 years out of $15B a year saving for 3 years is fuzzy liberal math I just do not get. So that big freeze is great and based on their math in 35 years we can have that boondoggle of a stimulus package repaid.

Here’s the deal Obama has raised discretionary spending 24% since Bush left office and now he’s going to freeze spending locking in these increases. It’s a shell game, here is what happened Obama jacked up the discretionary spending $40B in FY09 and $100B in FY10 and now he claims he is going to freeze and somehow save $15B a year starting in FY11. I don’t know about you, but raising something $140 billion and then using a gimmick to freeze it and somehow save $15 billion don’t seem like a bargain to me.

You want to cut spending try this…

–Refund the balance of the Stimulus package that’s about $522,000,000,000.00 ($522B)
–Put the repaid TARP money to the debt like it was suppose to do in the first place, that’s another $240,000,000,000.00 ($240B)
–Take congresses credit cards away
–Cull the fraud and abuse in all welfare/entitlement programs
–Abolish the IRS and go with a national flat sales tax of 17%
–Cut the size of government by 25% (less national security)
–No more White House parties.

This is a scam, a bait and switch it is akin to going to the grocery and not buying that candy bar at the checkout and then acting like you made a huge savings, it’s a joke, it’s a gimmick, don’t fall for it.

If they want to cut spending, then cut it and don’t play stupid little number games during an election year just to attempt to have something to crow about, we’re smarter than that.

Oh and while I’m on the subject Obama is going to make a big deal during the SOTU about tax cuts for the middle class, another lame attempt to buy votes. He will also play the class card, the “we want our money back”, the bank tax and blah, blah, blah you know the deal. He hasn’t been honest to date, why would he start now?

But today (01-26-10) Steve Moore is going to have an article in the Wall Street Journal on this joke of a freeze. I’ll link it when it’s published.
