Census 2010 brought to you by…

3M, Best Buy, BET, Carbon Fund, CMT, Google, MTV, Sesame Street, Telemundo, and Valero… the census has corporate sponsors? Seems rather odd for an administration that seemingly hates business as much as this one…

From the Census (Senseless) 2010 website….

Partners

Corporate partners of the 2010 Census Portrait of America Road Tour include 3M, Best Buy, BET, Carbon Fund, CMT, Google, MTV, Sesame Street, Telemundo, and Valero. These trusted voices are helping to communicate to their employees and consumers the importance of 2010 Census participation. City planners and businesses use census data to plan the future of their communities, including where to build new homes and businesses.

Emissions from the 2010 Census Portrait of America Road Tour will be offset by the Carbon Fund.

Ok not only does the Census have corporate sponsors but these morons have spent our money on this carbon offset racket… oh did you notice how the little “CarbonFund” logo looks a lot like the Obama logo with different colors? I did…

So what is carbon offset and what are you the taxpayer paying for? Well in short not a damn thing… they sell you nothing more than a warm fuzzy. Here is what you do and how this scam works — you go to there site and fill out their little form and figure out the carbon emissions for your family or at least what they claim you produce and then they shoot you a number to buy carbon credits and you pony up a bunch of cash and for your money you get NOTHING, not a damn thing. So while you show off your “nothing” you can revel in your warm fuzzy that you’ve just been had.

According to their site all I need to do is cough up about $500.00 to feel good based on my family… well too bad so sad I feel fine right now and it didn’t cost me a dime.

How much is the government spending on this scam? Well, who knows and where is the money going? That’s a mystery too. This is pure BS… let take for example that my power is hydro-electric and I have a lot of trees on my property of which they asked nothing about on their site, they assume you have coal fire power and no plants, well tree and plants absorb carbon and hydro-electric is so-called “green” energy but nothing is allotted for that. But what if my trees and plants on my property are absorbing more carbon than my family produces will these scammer send me a check for my excess CO2 so I can sell my carbon to some sucker that will buy it? Well hell no… it’s a damn racket and I have yet to find where the money goes, but you do get a snazzy certificate if you buy into their BS… hell I can make you a certificate that says “sucker” on it and I’ll sell it to you for a lot less money.

See this is the deal these scammer sell you some bogus carbon offset and if you are a business, a government or a bleeding heart liberal you can get their stupid little certificate and logo to put on your marketing campaign. Then you feel that somehow you are saving the earth as a phony carbon neutral company… and since these sellers of this snake oil are a 501(c)(3) charitable, nonprofit organization they can write every penny of it off your taxes.

So hurry run out and buy a big old jar of bullcrap and write it off your taxes.

So here is my question since they are using our tax money to give to 501(c)(3) charity how much of that can I deduct from MY TAXES? It’s my money they are spending, shouldn’t I get to write it off as a member of the endangered breed of taxpayer?

I was going to ramble on and on about corporate sponsors and is it legal for companies to have their logos on government tax payer funded vehicles, which I don’t think it is… but as one fellow bloggerette calls him the “jugearedjackass” seems to have a penchant for logos and symbolism… hey wasn’t there some other guys in the past like that too? While I doubt the legality of private company logo’s in government vehicles, the bigger question is how much money is being wasted on the so-called Carbon Fund that fails to state just were the money is really going…to me it is as the Germans would call it– all Der Große Lüge.

Call your congressman and ask them… how much is being spent on carbon credits and what is your fair share of the deduction. Don’t ask them IF you can get one, tell them you are taking it and you, as a tax payer need to know what it is for your CPA.

(Note to liberals and the parasite class- a CPA is a person that asset in bookkeeping and filing taxes and if either of you ever paid taxes you’d know that.)

For what it is worth, Carbonfund.org came up with the logo first and has been using it for some time.

Nice work on the post. It is clear you did no research or editing; but you do have strong convictions and love your soap box. My favorite quote is:

“…they assume you have coal fire power and no plants…”

Hello Paul seller of snake oil,

First the logo, I never said who came up with it first, doesn’t change the fact they look a lot a like.

Thanks for reading, and I noticed that while you took person shots at my editing or lack thereof and made no effort to defend your so-called charity against the charges of being a scammer and a racket, so with that in mind one can conclude that it is just that. Your charity makes money selling nothing more than a warm fuzzy in a box of BS topped with a pretty red bow and my tax dollars are being used to do it, sorry I do not much like that and I might have to get my Republican congressman to look into this bullcrap waste of tax dollars.

Now you will excuse me I have to go shovel a bunch of global warming off my walkway.

I am not going to engage in a conversation about the validity of carbon offset with you. There is simply no point.

But to reiterate your lack of basic understanding and research, did you notice that the government has spent ZERO dollars on carbon offsets for the census road tour? Carbonfund.org donated the offsets. http://carbonfund.org/site/more/media/1768

Just relax and let the free market do it’s work and stop trying to interfere and intimidate. People and businesses want to voluntarily take responsibility for their carbon emissions, so we provide a vessel for them to do so with real, high quality projects. People like you are under no impetus to purchase offsets.

Have fun shoveling. Glad you aren’t using the more carbon intensive snow blower. I will now return to my snake oil. :)

“I am not going to engage in a conversation about the validity of carbon offset with you. There is simply no point.”

Correct, you can not defend what you can not prove.

          “Carbonfund.org donated the offsets.”

So since you sell nothing you have donated nothing, I guess that qualifies a mutual warm fuzzy for the collective circle jerk? However, you are engaging in evil capitalism via tax funded advertising on Census vehicles and websites in addition to free press and media. After all Paul what are the odds you’d come to this site without having received a web spider media alert? About the same as global cooling and next ice age being imminent in the 1970′s (remember that?)

(NOTE: Carbon Fund dot scam donated 223 metric tons of carbon credit to the Censeless, at a street value of $10 metric dollar a ton or $2230.00 total donation for all that free advertising… pretty sweet deal don’t you think?)

“Have fun shoveling. Glad you aren’t using the more carbon intensive snow blower. I will now return to my snake oil.”

I live in the SOUTH where snow is uncommon but thanks to global warming I have it, but if it was common I can guarantee you I would have a snow blower attached to my John Deere tractor, however since I’m a carbon based life form and exhale more CO2 when working according to your racket I’ll need an offset.

Seriously Paul I’ll have a “educated class” conversation with you or anyone on carbon emissions and CO2 in the environment… might I ask you to start with this from a early post of my own…

Stop Breathing – EPA says: carbon dioxide (CO2) a pollutant.

There is around 186 billion tons of CO2 that enter earth’s atmosphere each year from all sources, only 6 billion tons are from human activity. Approximately 90 billion tons come from biologic activity in earth’s oceans and another 90 billion tons from such sources as volcanoes and decaying land plants.

At 368 parts per million carbon dioxide CO2 is a minor constituent of earth’s atmosphere– less than 4/100 th’s of 1% of all gases present. Compared to former geologic times, earth’s current atmosphere is CO2- impoverished.

So have fun praying on the ignorant.

Nice work. If only more people listened to you, our world would be a better place.

In spite of your anger, you seem like a nice man and you are clearly very passionate about your opinions. I believe that you are just trying to educate people with the tools that you have in your arsenal. I don’t agree with what you say or your self-righteous tone, but hey, who am I? According to you: a snake oil maker who prays on the ignorant (nice zingers!).

Take care and keep fighting the good fight. The world is big enough for all kinds of people and opinions, and through productive dialog we can accomplish a lot.

          • Comment from AWG

Paul I do not believe you are sold on the hype of the produce you represent, you just don’t seem passionate enough in it’s defense.
            or
You believe you are so intellectually and morally superior that you will not lower yourself to debate the ‘great unwashed’ as they are to dense to comprehend.

Then again maybe I’ve just hit to many nails on the head.

It’s one or the others, question is which one is it?

BTW One get be ‘angry’ without being hostile just as one may produce CO2 unaided by modern technology. Speaking of which I’m going to toss another log on the fire and free some carbon imprisoned by a plant.

You seem nice enough too, however you are not a maker of snake oil as that would request a physical product, Carbon Fund is only selling smug liberal warm fuzzies and that’s and a buck will get you a cup of coffee.

          • Comment from Paul

I have been doing this long enough to know when to let a man vent and not get into pissing contests.

The thing is you just don’t get it. You attack offset because people are taking voluntary action on something you disagree with. In this case, it is the government receiving a donation from a non-profit that has caught your wrath. You think that the government should do nothing that you disagree with.

Well guess what, they do lots of things I disagree with. They give billions to the coal and oil industry in direct and indirect subsidies. They support wars that I don’t personally agree with that cost tax payers billions and cost people their lives. But the government also ensures that I get clean water, that I have roads to travel on and all sorts of other services that I want. So I take it all with a grain of salt. That opinions must be balanced, nothing will be perfect, and the United States of America wasn’t design to make me personally happy.

You can cite scientific studies all you want or articles about how the earth isn’t warming. If you look hard enough I bet that you can still to this day find a scientist that states that white people are superior to blacks or that phrenology is an appropriate way to measure aptitude.

But you know damn well that the preponderance of the evidence is on the side of the global warming supporters. I won’t deny that there are valid scientific opinions that state otherwise, but you can find 10 scientists that support man made global warming for every one that is against it.

Sometimes I like to compare the threat of global warming to the threat of your house burning up. Will your house burn down? That is very, very unlikely. But we still have fire insurance. It is because of that .0001% chance that it will happen to us that we take action today.

Why do we treat the climate differently. I mean, are you seriously convinced that there is a 0% chance that climate change is real? You are seriously telling me that literally tens of thousands of scientists, governments from all over the world including ours, businesses, individuals are all being duped by a giant conspiracy?

You are free to believe whatever you want, but rationally, there is no way to look at all this and say there is a 0% chance global warming is real. And if there is even a chance that it is real, I think we should take action.

What actions should we take? Now that is where the real debate between people of differing opinions begins.

Caught my wrath? No, I can point you in the direction of those that have really caught my wrath… this is nothing.

Well guess what, they do lots of things I disagree with. They give billions to the coal and oil industry in direct and indirect subsidies. They support wars that I don’t personally agree with that cost tax payers billions and cost people their lives. Ask yourself how you life would be with oil and coal, would you have a car, a computer, all the modern niceties brought about by the industrial revolution fueled by oil and coal. Would you prefer we revert back to the 1850′s before the combustion engine and electricity? I’ll pass as I dealt with that in an ice storm a year ago. (Guess global warming caused it?)

You can cite scientific studies all you want or articles about how the earth isn’t warming. If you look hard enough I bet that you can still to this day find a scientist that states that white people are superior to blacks or that phrenology is an appropriate way to measure aptitude.

Now this is a typical race baiting remark, really aren’t you above that? It hasn’t a damn thing to do with the topic. As for phrenology I place that on same line as climate science.

But you know damn well that the preponderance of the evidence is on the side of the global warming supporters. I won’t deny that there are valid scientific opinions that state otherwise, but you can find 10 scientists that support man made global warming for every one that is against it.

What preponderance of the evidence? Oh that’s rich! Would that be the evidence from East Anglia’s climate-gate University? Would that be sampling of three trees in Siberia and establishing a trend? Would that be the cherry picking data to suit and agenda? As for tens of thousands of scientist supporting global warming I can give you a list of ten of thousands of scientist that call it a scam. (Over 31,000 to be exact.)

Sometimes I like to compare the threat of global warming to the threat of your house burning up. Will your house burn down? That is very, very unlikely. But we still have fire insurance. It is because of that .0001% chance that it will happen to us that we take action today.

Sounds great but you have fire insurance because if you have a mortgage you are required to have it, it’s not to protect you it’s to protect the investment of the mortgage company. Surely you are bright enough to know that. Then again my fire insurance isn’t estimated to cost $57 trillion, which is the estimate for fighting global warming. You can take it to the bank, if my fire insurance was 4 times my household GDP I’d have to risk it. (US GDP is 14.2 T)

Why do we treat the climate differently. I mean, are you seriously convinced that there is a 0% chance that climate change is real? You are seriously telling me that literally tens of thousands of scientists, governments from all over the world including ours, businesses, individuals are all being duped by a giant conspiracy?

No climate change is real it’s called seasons where I’m from. Yesterday was cold and sunny, today it’s frigid and snowing… the climate changed, it happens. As for the loony lemmings on the left that have a need to jump on the global warming band wagon do you really believe that they do that because they care, or is it because they want to appear they care while they jet around in private planes and enjoy limousine lifestyles… it’s the chic of the moment and this to will pass. You need look no further than Al Gore.

I don’t do conspiracies, however I do identify hypocrisy and lemming and call them out.

You are free to believe whatever you want, but rationally, there is no way to look at all this and say there is a 0% chance global warming is real. And if there is even a chance that it is real, I think we should take action.

You wanna bet? Here is the deal; you have roughly the last 160 years of climate data records on a planet that is over five billion years old. You seem to like numbers so that’s a sample size of 0.000000032% of the history of the world, not exactly a large enough of a sample rate to be reliable. That is a kin to taking a pinch of sand from a single beach and saying every beach in the world is like this tiny pinch. It’s insane to think you can predict a trend based on such tiny sample size. Do something conservative and think logically for a minute and do the math.

What happened to the mini ice age in medieval times? What happened to the last ice age 10,000 years ago? What about the one before that and the one before that? Where did they go and what caused them to end? Was it the Knights Templar riding ruck-shot across Europe in SUV’s? Or is it just a long climate cycle that occurs again and again? Which puts us right back in the lap of not enough data.

What actions should we take? Now that is where the real debate between people of differing opinions begins.

First thing use some damn common sense. Solar panels and wind turbines are not going to save the world… ask T. Boon Pickens who abandon the wind farm idea as not economically viable. If wind farms and solar farms were viable then we’d be using them and the tax payer wouldn’t be funding there development and paying people to install them, I might note the manufacture in CHINA is coal fired and the manufacturing process as killed the river it dumps into for miles down stream. (I saw that on either the liberal Dicovery or NatGeo so you know it’s true.) But you never see that, so you don’t know that in order to go green on more side of the world the other side has to go brown.

What to do… skip this baby step technology of wind and solar and use the natural resources we have right here in the good ol USA and develop hydrogen power, hydrogen is renewable, it is green and it does not relay on the wind blowing or the sun shining. It could be the prefect form of energy.

I will not argue that dirty power is good; I try to take care of my environment… I try to conserve energy when possible, but I do not what to be lectured to from a bunch lemming in limos about how I’ve a flat-earther when they just don’t have the data to prove their claims. All I ask is that common sense is used and right now this global warming/climate change hyperbole is lacking in both common sense and honest science.

It is ironic I’m debating global warming and it’s 11 degrees outside and going down, additionally you’ll be happy to know I’m burning wood and gas heat to stay warm and I’m toasty.

EDIT: If you reply start a new post as this is getting far to narrow.
