Sorry try again…

Royal Crown Cola

In my effort to break up the endless political rants, I offer another not so political rant about product contest and games…

So let’s go…

I am SICK of these play to win games on products… let me give you an example so you’ll know what I’m talking about. The other day I bought a candy bar, it was a Butterfingers with one of those you might be a winner codes on the inside of the wrapper. It was one of those alphanumeric codes that you had to enter into a website but the only way you can get the website address was to call a toll-free number, so I called the number I spent five minutes listening to some spiel about their products then I finally got that website address so I go to the website to enter the code, but you just can’t enter the code and find out if you won or not… oh no, they want your name, your home address, your phone number, your daytime phone number, your e-mail address, your age, your sex, your income along with your optional alternate e-mail address and about 50 other demographic question just to enter the damn code to find out if you are that 1 in 6,600,000 odds of winning winner. I’m not going to give them all of this information just so I can find out “sorry try again”. So that brings me to my point and it really depends on just how old you are, but when I was a kid you would buy RC colas (for example) in the bottle and when you took the cap off there was a cork liner and you would break out a butter knife scrape off the cork liner and underneath of it would be of value of either $.05, $.10, $.25, $.50, $1.00 or if you were really, really lucky you could win $5.00… I actually won the five dollar cap once and I felt like I hit the lottery, but this was long before lottery was around. This was real money, you took the cap to the store and cashed it in… no name, address, shoe size or favorite movie required. Here my cap… there’s a money, period.

The point is I knew right there if I won or not, I didn’t have to go to a website and enter all kinds of information, I didn’t have to call a 800 number to find out what the website address was just so I could give them all of this information, so I could be told “sorry try again” this is as annoying as entering the 16 digit alphanumeric Coca-Cola codes that doesn’t work half the time… and the rewards, all that they’ve got is a bunch of cheap junk that is over valued in terms of points needed.

I just want to know if I have a winner or not… I don’t want your junk mail, I don’t want your spam and I damn sure don’t want your telemarketing survey opinion poll calls.

Ok I’m done now… for the moment.

BTW
The dollar hit a new low, gold hit a new high and School Kids Sing For Health Care Reform On Set Of CNN just so you know.
