A brief departure from the norm…
Pardon me while I rant for a moment! Can you not find anything made in America anymore? This morning my wife (The Angry White Women) brought out a towel that we’ve had for over 20 years, yes 20 years not only have we had the towel for 20 years we’ve had each other for 20 years… shocking huh? The point is this 20-year-old towel was still in fairly decent shape, it was still relatively thick and fluffy and it was made in America. Any towel we have bought in the past few years has faded, has become thin as tissue paper and is worth nothing more than being a dust rag additionally these cheap towels were made in India or Mexico or China or Egypt or Morocco, but none of them were made in the United States! But it’s not just towels, it’s nearly every product it to buy! Today I took a coat rack out to be thrown away because it’s falling apart and we haven’t had it that long, but it was cheaply made out of cheap material and clearly we didn’t get our money’s worth out of it! And people wonder why I go to antique stores and auctions to buy the goods I need, the old stuff was made to last and most of it was made in America by people who took pride in their work and was their for something more than a paycheck… the employees took care of the company and the company took care of the employee, but now the employee tries to get what they can from the employer (i.e. liberal unions) and the employer gets all it can from the employee do to liberal policies to over regulate employment companies no longer have a desire to care about the employee, but I digress…
So why is it so hard to find goods made in America anymore? Well I’ll tell you I’ll blame the Democrats, they’ve driven up the cost of corporate taxes, they have driven up the cost of manufacturing taxes, they driven up the cost of wages, they have driven up the cost of living and most manufacturers can no longer afford to do business in this country. Let’s take the minimum wage for example… the current federal minimum wage is$7.25\hr so with the minimum wage being what it is it’s no wonder that the$1. 00 menu is now a $1.29! And you moronic liberals don’t give me that crap about you can’t live on $7.25/hr… that’s true you can’t, but without it then perhaps the cost of living wouldn’t be as high as it is.
When you raise the minimum wage an employer has two choices, the employer can either cut their workforce or raise their prices. So by doing this you either increase the unemployment or increase the cost of living and by increasing the cost of living those people that got a minimum wage raise are right back to square one as they have not increased their buying power and those that make more than minimum wage has seen a reduction in their buying power and with a reduction of buying power you create a reduction in economic growth this leads to stagnation if not recession. To raise the minimum wage in the middle of a recession is to run headlong into a depression and only a fool would not know this! (Obama does not know this) But the Democrats like to push for minimum wage increases, because they like to say that is helping the poor when in reality they’re hurting them. They also around wondering why the jobs are going overseas… the answer is so obvious it’s pathetic and you would think that these so call educated people in Washington would understand that.
I used to buy jeans that was made in America, I bought shirts that were made in America, I bought shoes and socks that were made in America even my underwear was made in America just a few short miles from my house. Well now that plant is gone and those Fruit of Looms are now made in Mexico. The shirt on my back is made in Bangladesh as are the pants and the flip-flops that I bought just a mere five months ago that are now falling apart are made in India. It’s nearly impossible to find anything made in America anymore, I look and I tried to find products made in the good old USA but is becoming an increasingly impossible task. We have gone from a manufacturing society to a service society and a service society is too reliant on economic growth for survival and in the midst of a economic downturn the service industry is the first to be hit making your economy especially vulnerable as it is so reliant on the flow of cash. Whereas a manufacturing economy is more reliant on international commerce as if your local economy is suffering but you have a manufacturing economy you can still sell those goods overseas this is why China is booming and we are not, they are making stuff and all we are doing is buying it. If you have a manufacturing economy which is what America used to have you can always find a country that can buy your goods and give if that country should have the economic downturn you can find another country that will buy your goods. But if you have a service-based economy any national or localized economic downturn can be devastating.
So what else do the Democrats do to destroyed the economy? Well in addition to the minimum wage is also the EPA. By pushing for unrealistic environmental standards by the liberally backed and ran in Environmental Protection Agency manufacturers and businesses find it either impossible or unaffordable to remain in this country and this goes right into the Obama proposed Cap and Trade legislation. If this legislation passes we will either paying a lot more for electricity or we will be using a lot less electricity or more likely a case lots of power plants will spring up on the Mexican side of the border that will be importing our electricity just like we do everything else. I’m all for taking care of the environment, I’m all for being a good steward of the earth but you cannot cut your nose off to spite your face and expect to survive in this world economy and that’s what the majority of the Democrats in Washington are doing they are cutting off their nose to spite their face and sacrificing the American standard of living at the altar of political correctness.
You want to get this country back on its feet? You want to see America thrive again? Do away with the oppressive and unrealistic environmental standards and put some common sense into the game, do away with these feel-good minimum wage standards and let the market determine the value of the work performed. Good work is rewarded with good pay and artificial pay scale will yield you artificial work… I know more people that work harder at getting out of work then it would be to just do the job and they make me sick. This government hasn’t a clue and is hell bent on bring this country down… they need to go.
Now don’t worry… I’ll be back on Obama’s ass soon and his ignorant photo op with his phony Doctors.

Again you managed to hit that old nail right on the head! Remember the old adage that cried all American? “Baseball, hotdogs, apple pie and chevrolet?” I’ve always been a Ford person, however, for the first time in 20+ years I bought a Chevy, (it was a good deal on a used car). Only to find out that the all American Chevy I now drive was made in Korea. I bought a little cat toy for, of course, my cat, and was all proud due to the label saying “made in USA”. It was only later that I noticed the fine print that says, “fiber filling made in China”.
I try to buy American when I can and that’s why I have so many antique.
My Mustang was assembled in Oklahoma. I’m sure that it’s chock full of foreign made parts but it’s a blast to drive !!!
And, John Marlowe (good name by the way), my new Corolla was made in Canada.
