Shovel Ready busy work

repave

I’m working on some political post so in the meantime I have this.

I live in far Western Kentucky, yes the bastion of intellectual think tanks and recently the road in front of my house was paved. There was no Recovery.gov propaganda signs and in fact there where no states signs, just one day they started paving the road without notice. Now anyone with half a brain could have told from the prep-work that was what they were going to do, but why? Why pave a road in a state (Commonwealth) that had a nearly $500,000,000.00 budget shortfall (that they used stimulus money to balance) all while having a balanced budget amendment AND pave a road that doesn’t need paving?

As you can see on the photo in the photo on the right, the pavement on the right is the old road, no cracks, no potholes, no breaks, nothing wrong with the road at all, they might be one or two small patches over the 6.61 mile length of the road that has a daily traffic load of less than a 100 cars with many of those being the same cars/trucks/tractors. So why did they pave it? The cost to pave the road according to the KENTUCKY TRANSPORTATION CABINET was $131,781.00 that’s about $20,000.00 a mile to pave a road that didn’t need paving? Now here is a funny, if that’s what you can call it they paved it about a inch thick and then painted it, then they went back over it with three inches of asphalt and painted it again. Whatever? This is just a waste of money in a state with the budget shortfall and for the record the road near me that intersects with the newly paved road is full of gravel spots, potholes, 100′s of patches, breaks in the pavement and missing shoulders but they did nothing to it. Go figure?

The only different in the road that was paved is that is blacker and about 4 inches taller making it a pain in the ass to mow by.  So why am I posting this? It’s just another example of wasting money at all levels.
