There is a report out that says global warming is causing fish to shrink… what idiot came up with this theory? And just an FYI it’s July 22, 2009 in Kentucky near the Mississippi River… and it’s usually blistering hot in the valley and has been just that in every July since I was a kid decades ago… today it’s 64 degrees… 64 that’s Fahrenheit in July and the normal high is 92 degrees… please one of you global warming morons explain to me how these cool temperatures are evidence of how hot it really is, I’d like to know… just small words I’d like to understand it.
Anyway…
Fish are shrinking in response to global warming: study
Fish Shrink Due to Climate Change
Allow me to explain fish metabolism a little here for the uninformed… fish are cold blooded therefore their metabolism is regulated by the surrounding water temperature and the warmer the water the faster the fish GROWS… not shrink, grows as in gets larger therefore one could surmise that fish shrinkage is do to global cooling and not global warming. Must I really have to explain Jr. High School biology?
When was the last time anyone caught a 20 pound bass in Minnesota? When? NEVER, all record bass are caught in warm water climates with long seasons of heat… like Southern California. In the aquarium trade fish farms and breeder crank up the water heaters to grow the fish faster as to get them to market faster and free up rearing tanks sooner… again there I go with the facts. A side effect of this little breeder trick is a shorter fish life do to a higher metabolism.
So if you ask me and if you are reading this you did in a sense… shrinking fish are more likely do to over fishing and not providing younger fish enough time to completely mature before breeding. Fish are very adaptable and small breed stock is do in my opinion to overfishing and the need for survival amongst the fish meaning younger fish are breeding to replace shrinking populations… not shrinking size. This is why we regulate fish harvest.
Here is some quotes from the article…
Smaller fish tend to produce fewer eggs. They also provide less sustenance for predators – including humans – which could have significant implications for the food chain and ecosystem.
REALLY? Smaller fish produce fewer eggs? What’s your next discovery people with shorter legs have smaller strides? Genius.. absolute genius.
Earlier research has already established that fish have shifted their geographic ranges and their migratory and breeding patters in response to rising water temperatures. It has also been established that warmer regions tend to be inhabited by smaller fish.
Buy a book on ichthyology and get back to me. I swear I had an idiot tell me… “well whales live in the arctic and look how big they are and that’s cold water, explain that!!” I said “Whales are warm blooded mammal and not fish, next question.”
“Although not negating the role of other factors, our study provides strong evidence that temperature actually plays a major role in driving changes in the size structure of populations and communities,” the study concluded.
What strong evidence? Global warming is a lot like racism and racism is a lot like clouds, if you look long enough and hard enough you can find a bunny… but somehow I don’t think that it’s a real bunny in the clouds and just because you see it, it doesn’t mean it’s there. You’ll note they left a back door to escape their claim with “Although not negating the role of other factors,”…. right those other FACTors.
Breaking Facts…
What the hell did I say earlier? And with a little research something the nuts on the left don’t do you’ll find a more plausible answer. If you’re a liberal you either A) Blame Bush B) Blame Global Warming C) Blame the GOP …. I’d rather use facts and data myself.
So if you’d like a more down to earth common-ass-sense reason for shrinking fish read here…
SHRINKING FISH
Worldwide, commercial fishing maximally exploits or over-exploits three-quarters of fish stocks, reducing the number of fish and changing their heritable features. The picture [inserted above] shows the decreasing size and weight of the Atlantic Cod at first reproduction. Over the last decade, IIASA’s scientists have researched this previously-overlooked evolutionary dimension of modern fishing. They have built a scientific consensus around the issue and warn it may have unexpected consequences for the economic value and the ecological stability and recovery potential of exploited fish stocks.
Not global warming, but over exploitation, now you know more about fish than you ever wanted to.

Funny you should mention this, but I saw a bunny when I opened a can of tuna yesterday-strangest thing. Also funny is how, if there was such a thing as AGW, just why in the hell it wouldn’t be good for growing more produce. And who says that this temperature is the perfect one anyways? AlGore??
