Obama and Napolitano Weakening Post-9/11 Driver’s License Reforms

Here is something you’re not hearing a lot about in the MSM… in 2005 the Bush administration passed the REAL ID Act, the REAL ID Act, however the effective date for the REAL ID effective date keeps getting pushed further and further back currently set for 2011. So what you are not hearing is the Obama administration want to do is to remove the REAL ID Act in favor of the PASS ID Act… interestingly one if the provisions of the PASS ID would be to eliminates security measures included in the Real ID Act, which required verification of birth certificates, Social Security numbers and immigration status.

Obama’s Homeland Security Secretary Supports Weakening Post-9/11 Driver’s License Reforms That Were Designed to Thwart Terrorists

Some of the details of the REAL ID Act the the libs and Obama hate so much.

The REAL ID Act Driver’s License Summary[13] details the following provisions of the Act’s driver’s license title:

* Authority
* Data Retention and Storage
* DL/ID Document Standards
* Grants to States
* Immigration Requirements
* Linking of Databases
* Minimum DL/ID Issuance Standards
* Minimum Standards for Federal Use
* Repeal of 9/11 Commission Implementation Act DL/ID Provisions
* Security and Fraud Prevention Standards
* Verification of Documents

After 2011, “a Federal agency may not accept, for any official purpose, a driver’s license or identification card issued by a state to any person unless the state is meeting the requirements” specified in the REAL ID Act. States remain free to also issue non-complying licenses and IDs, so long as these have a unique design and a clear statement that they cannot be accepted for any Federal identification purpose.

So what the Obama administration wants to do is pass a new bill called PASS ID…

The PASS ID bill, which is supported by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, eliminates security measures included in the Real ID Act, which as already stated but merits repeating has required verification of birth certificates, Social Security numbers and immigration status before someone could get a driver’s license that could be used as an identification card for federal purposes such as boarding an airplane. The purposed of the REAL ID act was to prevent ID fraud and fulfill recommendations made by the 9/11 Commission.

Hmmm… required verification of birth certificates, I can see why Obama would have a problem with that one, additionally this new Obama bill if enacted would NOT required verification Social Security numbers and immigration status before someone could get a driver’s license… well I guess this would help out Obama’s illegal aunt Zeituni Onyango who continues to live in public housing in Boston at the US taxpayers expense for years after her immigration Visa expired.

Enter the idiots at the ACLU regarding REAL ID…

Still, the American Civil Liberties Union has alleged that the new requirements on driver’s licenses amount to a national ID card for citizens. Sensenbrenner disputes that, adding that states have had a cross-checking system for commercial driver’s license since the early 1990s.

Frankly I don’t have a problem with a limited National ID, if you work someplace often you have an ID so you can get in to your job, if you want to drive you have to have a license i.e. an ID to drive, buy alcohol, tobacco and guns, if you are in the military you have to have a ID, if you have a video store or gym member ship you need a ID, if you want to go to the library you need an ID to get an ID to check out a book, if you want to travel outside the country you need an ID in the form of a passport… so is it so unreasonable to require an ID to be a member/citizen of the United States? In a country with roughly 15,000,000 illegal aliens within it’s boarders I think not. Now with that said I would not sign on to a National ID that electronically tracks your movement or contained a vast array of personal data all it needs to be is a card that say the holder is a legal US citizen with a unique UPC that can be cross checked as being a VALID or INVALID ID only. Granted this would require some degree of trust in the government of which right now I have none, so the cards should be designed by a trust private group that has as much skepticism of the government as does most of the public, there is no good answer but the problem with illegal need to be addressed and this is one way to do it.

But since Obama and half his family wouldn’t be not able to get an ID, I guess the current administration would see this as a problem along with the rest of the liberaltards that somehow think a national ID is a invasion of privacy, but National Health Care with digitized medical records accessible from the interenet, Smart Meters to regulate your electrical use and nearly every other Obama proposal is not an invasion… go figure.

What ever the idiot democrats do you can bet on two things… 1. it will have zero impact on the illegals i the country since that’s a large chuck of their fraud voting base and 2. It will be easy to fake as to appease the loony left the card will be easily forgeable in a back ally with a home PC and a lamination machine.
